  • Angela Hewitt (piano)
    National Concert Hall

Following her critically-acclaimed two-concert performance of Bach’s The Well-Tempered Clavier at the 2008 Festival, Canadian pianist Angela Hewitt returns for a solo recital presented in association with the National Concert Hall.

One of the leading pianists of her generation, Angela Hewitt regularly appears in recital and with major orchestras in prestigious venues throughout Europe, the Americas and Asia. Her performances and recordings of Bach have drawn particular praise, marking her out as one of the composer’s foremost interpreters of our time. The Festival is proud to have secured the only Irish performance of her The Art of Fugue Project which will see her perform this extraordinary work in two programmes in major halls worldwide during the 2012/2013 season. For her Festival appearance she performs Contrapunctus I-X alongside Schubert’s Valses Nobles and Liszt’s gargantuan Sonata in B minor. A feast of piano-playing for Irish audiences.

    Schubert: 12 Valses Nobles, D969
    Liszt: Sonata in B minor
Bach: The Art of Fugue, Contrapunctus I-X

The National Concert Hall is delighted to be collaborating with KBC Great Music in Irish Houses in presenting one of the world’s finest pianists, Angela Hewitt. As the ‘national music house’ it is entirely appropriate that we should join with Ireland’s longest-established chamber music festival to offer a wider public the opportunity of enjoying this great artist.’ Simon Taylor, Director, The National Concert Hall
